Celebrate National Dog Day!

A shout out to all our heart dogs today. They deserve it!

Let’s see pics of your favourite puppers.

Throughout history dogs have had a special bond with us. As companions, working dogs, helper dogs or even soldiers, they’ve aided and guided us. Sometimes literally.

My heart dogs (You’ve met Tucker. This picture is of Banjo, my Samoyed) help me in so many ways without even realizing it. Their abundant happiness and unconditional love is a constant in a life full of ups and downs.

Many people with anxiety and depression sometimes just want to be alone. We can find socializing, even with just a few friends, overwhelming. That’s not necessarily healthy, but sometimes it is what it is. Our dogs can be our ground, the one stable thing we so desperately need.

For that alone I thank them with all my heart and promise to return the love as long as they’re with me.

Give your heart dogs a special hug today and every day.

It was a GOOD day

As anyone who suffers from anxiety and depression knows, there are good days and there are bad days.

Today was a good day. Why? Well, for one, IV ketamine treatments have given me my life back. More on that later folks.

Mostly I was just happy to make it through a day without tears, spending the afternoon at the beach with a couple of friends and my Heart Dog, Tucker.

Tucker is the first of my bunch you’ll meet. He’s a happy go lucky Silky Terrier who is teaching me how to live again. Watching him bravely dance through the waves while other little dogs watched from the sidelines made my heart sing.

Veterinarians often refer to that special dog in their lives as their ‘Heart Dog’. Some of us will have more than one in our lifetimes. These dogs will have helped us through rough patches, being there for us after a tough day of dealing with ill pets and grieving owners, ready to cuddle and listen while we shed tears for those we couldn’t save.

Some of them are the last thing that holds us back from taking that handful of pills when we want so badly to just go to sleep and not wake up again. We can’t leave them. They’re that damned important to us.

Tucker is my Heart Dog. I love you ‘Mucker Dog’. You made today a GOOD day.
